PENSHURST Saturday April 25th 2009 PREVIEW

Fine weather is forecast for Saturday's Penshurst point-to-point, and the continuing absence of rain has kept two tankers busy watering at the course all week. The organisers expect "fast, goodish" ground and there is a strong entry of 92 horses.

With the end of the season in sight, competition for the title races is warming up: Pete Bull leads Nick Pearce by just three points for the men's championship and both men have contenders lined up for Saturday. Pearce expects to field the bigger hand with provisional plans to run Independent Trader in the Intermediate or club race, and Theatre Knight in the Mens' Open. Say Grace may run in Intermediate if the ground is suitable and Sheriff's Friend is scheduled for the Ladies or the Novice/Veteran race. Pete Bull has Master T in the Open or Veterans and Young Emma in the Maiden.

In the ladiy riders' championship Cynthia Haydon is six points clear of Rose Grissell, while Will Hickman seems to have the novice title sewn up with 34 points to Tom Cannon and Tom Cheesman, both on ten points.

Carryonharry also has the choice between the Ladies'Open and the Novice/Veteran, along with Tribal Venture who could be a threat to all.

Admission is £25 per car with up to five occupants or $5 per pedestrian. Penshurst racecourse is three miles south-west of Penshurst off the B2188, eight miles from Tunbridge Wells and 12 miles from Junction 5 of the M25. The main card starts at 2.00pm, preceded by pony racing from 12.30.
