Parham Pony Racing report April 19th 2008
Another wet and blustery day for pony racers and their supporters at Parham on Saturday but the weather could do nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of these young jockeys. The Novice Combination race was fiercely ridden by Leah Wright (Wayward Polly Delight) and Tabitha Worsley (Chukka) with Leah’s smaller pony narrowly holding onto a one length advantage over Tabitha’s appaloosa polo pony. Barndale Playtime (Chloe Durkan) who has been consistently placed this season was third.
Six went to post for the 138cm and under open race. Rivenhall Playboy, who had last week deposited his jockey Charlotte Cheesman at the start, this time looked reluctant to get away and was left some six lengths behind from the off. Quite the opposite from Balfour Tia Dora, who was extremely eager to jump off and took Joshua Thompson quickly into the lead. The pace settled at the first bend and it was Charlie Marshall on last week’s winner, Little Tinker, George Crate (Covenham Generation) and Tabitha Worsley (Goldsborough Moonlight Mist) who made the running at this stage. As Tabitha pressed for home the two boys were left to battle it out with each other. A slip on the final bend proved costly for Charlie and despite his best efforts he was unable to make up the deficit. The unbeaten Goldsborough Moonlight Mist was an easy winner by 10 lengths from George Crate in second and Charlie 3rd by a neck.
