Countryside Raceday, LINGFIELD PARK, March 28th 2009

Lingfield Park held its Countryside Carnival Day on Saturday (28th March), when a good crowd turned up to see terrier racing, border collies shepherding ducks and a good card of hurdling and 'chasing.

As part of a reciprocal racecard advertising deal, the South Easat Point-to-Point Supporters' Club sponsored the Novice 'Chase, which was won impressively by the Nick Gifford trained Russian Around. Club members judged the Best Turned Out and presented the winner's trophy to Robin Elliot, whose previous horses have included Deep Sensation.

Earlier in the day Alan Cowing's Rear Gunner, a winner at Foklkestone earlier in the month, finished a good second to Kangaroo Court in one of the novice hurdle races, continuing the good form of ex-point-to-point trainer Di Grissell, who now trains under Rules.

The Supporters' Club advertisement in the racecard was a promotion for the Godstone meeting the following day.

FAIR POINT won the club-sponsored Best Turned Out award, and started favourite - but after running prominently he faded and was well beaten.

Di Grissell's best result of the day from a number of runners came with REAR GUNNER, owned by former Club committee member Alan Cowing. The seven-year-old, who has won a point-to-point, finished an honourable second to the odds-on favourite Kangaroo Court in the opening novice hurdle race.
