Heather Kemp
Reigning SE ladies’ champion Heather Kemp says that, of her horses from last season, the Parham winner SOUNDS GOOD will be aimed at Barbury Castle PPORA meeting.
CLOVER BAY has come in much stronger, having had a serious back problem last year. “She deserves to win a race as she did everything but last year and may be ready for the Farmers Bloodhound meeting before Christmas or failing that will go to Barbury Castle.”
Heather’s new horse is TALLOW BRIDGE - following the tragic death of Lynn Wilson earlier this year this horse has arrived in the South East to be specifically targetted for Ladies races. “I have known Judy Wilson and Bill Warner, her trainer, for many years and had been nagging them to run this horse in Ladies races. We have ended up buying him and he may well make an appearance at the first Tweseldown and support the new Brightwells Order of Excellence series and then to Detling in January.”
Another new horse is THEOCRITUS, bought at Ascot sales in August. “The decision to buy was left to Sounds Good's owner, Roy Hartop who was there on our behalf. He will go to Detling in January,” says Heather.
A couple of new heads have appeared over box doors: CAGED TIGER is a older horse Maiden who will run at Detling. He was previously in training with Charlie Mann and has had his problems over the years but is a lovely big sort who has shown promise under Rules including a 4th in the Grand Military at Sandown Park.
HARRYCONE LEWIS is an ex Pam Sly bred/owned horse who "spat the dummy out" on his last run at Towcester with AP McCoy on Board having been frightened to bits running in the Sporting Index Chase at the Cheltenham festival! He has loved Hunting and is, at present, enjoying a varied life. Whether we can sweeten him up enough to show his true abilities remains to be seen. Plan is to run at Larkhill on January 3rd.
Catherine Shirley, Leading Groom in the Area last year, has re-joined Heather’s yard after a summer sabbatical - she has been showing last year's runner "Ridgit" in ex-racehorse classes and to date he has won six dressage classes, competed in the Burghley ex-racehorse class and was recently champion at the local Arundel Riding Club show.
