GORDON KICK-STARTS HIS TRAINING CAREER
Chris Gordon celebrated his first day as a trainer with a winner at Fontwell on November 17th. With his first-ever runner finishing third in an earlier race, Chris saddled John Farrant's Quarrymount to win the Safecoat Europe Ltd Handicap Hurdle.
Jockey Colin Bolger kept the horse in contention until riding it clear after the third last, and the pair beat Mistified by seven lengths despite an alarming jink to the right just after the final hurdle.
Quarrymount, who was trained on the Flat by Sir Mark Prescott to win at Newmarket, Brighton and Lingfield, was a disappointment for Gordon on his last day as a jockey. At the United Hunts meeting at Folkestone on May 17th, the horse looked a certain winner two from home, but jumped poorly to be overhauled by The Grey Baron and Pete Bull.
After the Fontwell win, Quarrymount ran with a penalty in a better hurdles race at Uttoxeter on November 17th, managing a solid third.
Both Chris and his wife Jenny have ridden the horse to victories in SE Area point-to-points.
Chris and Jenny, who rode and trained point-to-pointers for prominent owner Simon Tindall, moved to Morestead in Hampshire in the summer to embark on a new career training horses "under Rules".
