Godstone pony racing report Feb 10th 2008

Despite a frosty morning the SE Point to Point pony racing series got under way at the Mid Surrey Farmers Drag meeting at Godstone in glorious sunshine.

The first race was for Novice riders ponies, 148cm & under, and a full house of 10 went to the start. Champlers Spring Fever and new jockey Aaron Chave were slowly away but the pair quickly made up the ground to then make all to win by a neck, despite a last minute run from Frankie Hickman, having her first ride on Top Star Surprise. Barndale Playtime, formerly known as Barney Rubble, ran well to take 3rd for his new jockey Chloe Durkan, with Broomsmell Sandmartin finishing 4th for Kathryn Featherstone who has taken over the ride from older sister Emily.

In the second race, an Open race for ponies 148cm and under, seven runners went to post, Cherubino - Gemma Cobb, Goldsborough Moonlight Mist – Tabitha Worsley & Rio (formerly known as Red Hot Rio).

Charlie Marshall went of in front, Newoak Second Thought (Chloe Willett) and Rhoden Zukino were slowly away from the start and never managed to make up the ground. The front three were caught up by Flash IV in the final furlong and the mare went on to win by a neck for Lizzie Norman from Cherbino 2nd , Goldsborough Moonlight Mist 3rd, and Rio 4th.
