Folkestone Racecourse

2009 FIXTURE

Thurs 14th May, 6.00pm

A course that can become surprisingly testing in the middle of winter, invariably resulting in ‘short runners’ failing to get home. The steeplechase track consists of seven fences to a circuit with no water jump and the open ditch being the third last.

On the hurdles course, a very long run of approximately five furlongs between the last two flights plays into the hands of former flat horses with a turn of foot. One of the most popular meetings of the season is the ‘Flying Pigs’ Hunter Chase night in May — it’s nickname coming from the fact that horses with no previous form at all sometimes sprout wings at the meeting.

BY ROAD

Folkestone Racecourse is located five miles west of Folkestone Town, about one mile from junction 11 of the M20 at Newingreen. This is on the junction of the A20 and the A261.

BY RAIL

Westernhanger Station adjoins the course and is five minutes walk. Services depart from London Charing Cross approximately every hour on the half hour. Intermediate stops include Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Ashford and allow connections from most parts of the South East.
