With three fences to jump, Highland Chief was urged to join Bee An Bee and they jumped the penultimate fence together, but Bee An Bee was able to find an extra gear and pulled away again in the home straight to continue his winning ways. Race 6: The Grants Cherry Brandy South East Hunts Club Members Maiden Race
9 maidens went to post for the last race of the day. The bookies made Alfie’s Isle (James Maxse) the 5/2 favourite with Captain’s Legacy (Peter Bull) and Lushes Run (Phil York) at 3/1, Mooresini (Tom Cannon) at 4/1 and the rest of the field 6/1 and bigger.
The final race of the day saw the third false start, but as the field eventually set off Phantoms Lair (A Panman) and Nearly Ahead (Gordon Gallagher) were both slow to start. Flynn John (Georgina Andrews) was an early leader along with Marine Gunner (Fiona Hemphill), but all 9 were traveling well as they turned up the hill for the first time. Captain’s Legacy made a mistake at fence nine and ten where Nearly Ahead was starting to get tailed off. Lushes Run started to struggle at fence twelve and Alfie’s Isle was pulled up at fence thirteen where Mooresini just had the lead from Captain’s Legacy and Marine Gunner. Flynn John was pulled up at fence fifteen. Mooresini hit fence sixteen but managed to find his feet on landing although this allowed Captains Legacy to gain an advantage. Captain’s Legacy put in a good jump at fence seventeen where Lushes Run was pulled up, but then made a mistake at fence eighteen allowing Mooresini to start to close the gap. Captain’s Legacy led over the last fence but Mooresini put in a huge jump and found an extra burst of speed on the run in to overhaul Captain’s Legacy in the closest finish of the day. Phantoms Lair ran out at the last where I Had A Sister (Jody Sole) was pulled up leaving Marine Gunner the only other finisher.
